In November 1990, I was born at 24 gestational weeks, weighing a whopping 1 pound 10 ounces. I was given a 10% chance of survival with a 5% chance of having normal brain function. Although my parents understood the facts and the long list of complications, they trusted God for complete healing.
They had healing scriptures recorded and played them in my incubator 24/7. They had friends and family who agreed with them in prayer and helped contend for my healing. Despite all odds, I survived with minor complications.
I was diagnosed with mild spastic cerebral palsy. There are different types of cerebral palsy, but it is caused by loss of oxygen to the brain. The part of my brain that was affected controls fine motor skills and coordination of the legs. This caused major delays and I was in pain 24 hours a day. The best way I can explain it is that it feels like having a nonstop Charlie horse in every muscle and there’s nothing that can lessen the pain. I underwent 8 corrective surgeries and 20 years of physical therapy and various medical procedures to improve my quality of life.
Due to the prayers of many people and God’s faithfulness, I gradually got better until I was 14, when everything came to a standstill. Nothing got worse, but nothing improved, and I was really tired of fighting this disorder. I really desired a “quick fix” instant miracle each time I got prayed for, but that didn’t happen.
I realized that I had to contend with my own faith. I received a copy of God’s Word for Every Circumstance and began saying Healing Scriptures aloud to increase my faith. I would be stuck in bed or in a wheelchair declaring that "by the stripes of Jesus I had already been healed." I received a lot of confused reactions because my circumstances did not even come close to resembling my confession. But still, I kept a positive confession.
Over the course of six years of confessing the Word, things slowly improved and I was walking and having less muscle pain. When I was 20, I had my final knee surgery and doctors were unsure what to do because I had the knees of an 80-year-old, with zero cartilage left.
The day before my surgery, my doctor said he didn’t have a plan. He was the number one doctor in the world for cerebral palsy and he didn’t have a plan?! Despite our worry, my family prayed with the surgeon before surgery, thanking God for how far He’d brought me and trusting that He would guide the surgeon’s hands.
I woke up from surgery and my parents told me the doctor found brand new, perfectly formed “baby” cartilage in my knees. Praise God! This was a complete miracle. After recovering, doctors performed routine tests and could not find any symptoms of cerebral palsy in my body. They declared me healed and whole and I’ve been walking in complete healing for over 5 years.
Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.”
A Word of Encouragement
If you’ve been facing a long battle and are tired of fighting, take heart! Your answer was already paid for on the Cross. Keep confessing the truth of God’s Word. Your circumstances must align with his Word. Surround yourself with people who will believe in you and fight with you, no matter how dire things seem.
Even when it seems crazy, makes no sense, and is the opposite of what you see, declare God’s promises for health and prosperity in every realm of your life. Look up some scriptures and say them out loud. The Bible says death and life are in the power of the tongue. Make your words match God’s word and see how your circumstances change. Even if it takes 20 years, don’t give up! If God can do it for me, He can do it for you!
What area in your life are you desperate for God to show up? What does His Word say about your situation? Rest in His promises today, and trust that He is working on your behalf!
